Apple has just announced the fourth generation of its iPad with several cool advances over the current model.
It has a brand new processor – the A6x chip – giving better performance and faster graphics but with the same ten hour battery life as the model it replaces.
The fourth generation iPad will be available for pre-order this Friday.
Key features include:
- A6x chip – which doubles the performance for CPU tasks and doubles the graphics performance
- a new signal processor for face recognition and image stabilization
- more energy efficient
- ten hours battery life
- Wi-Fi up to twice as fast
- Lightning connector
- Retina display
- 5 megapixel camera
The fourth generation iPad starts with 16 gig wifi for for $499 – twice the performance and new features for the same price as third generation iPad.
Earlier today Apple’s Tim Cook also announced that the iPad now accounts for 91% of tablet web traffic.
He said they sold more iPads in the June quarter than any PC manufacturer sold of their whole PC lineup.
Asking why the iPad had been so phenomenally successful he said: “There is a simple reason for this – people love their iPads.
“They love the big beautiful multi-touch display, the fast fluid responsiveness of hardware and the iPad’s legendary all day battery life.”
He said the company also reached a major milestone two weeks ago by selling 100 million iPads in just two and a half years.
