The wait is finally over and Apple today announced their new highly anticipated new 7.9 inch iPad mini.
Apple promised that the new device was more than just a shrunken down iPad and said that it was a device which had been engineered from scratch.
The first iPad which can be held in one hand was described as “thin and beautiful from every angle.”
To put it in context, Apple said the new tablet was as thin as a pencil and as light as a pad of paper.
Apple said: “iPad mini has everything that makes an iPad an iPad, but it’s a fraction of the size.
“At just 7.2 millimeters, it’s pencil thin and unbelievably light. You can easily hold it in your palm. And stash it in your smallest bag without a second thought, so it’s always close at hand.”
Apple said of the new device:
“Our goal was clear: Create the smallest possible iPad that could still deliver the full iPad experience. iPad mini is 23 percent thinner, 53 percent lighter,* and fits in one hand — yet it can do everything an iPad can do. To accomplish that, we went back to the very beginning and designed it from scratch.
“Since iPad is all about the display, that’s where we started. We wanted it to be small, but not too small. It had to be big enough to do all the things you love to do on iPad. And it had to work with all the apps made for iPad. With that as our guide, we were able to determine the perfect size: 7.9 inches. Because at that size, it feels like an iPad in every way — only it’s mini.”

Prices start at $329 for the Wi-Fi 16GB model, $429 for 32GB and $529 for 64GB.
It comes in black and white, is available for pre-order on Friday and ships it on November 2.
