iPad-loving penguins p-p-p-pick up a game designed for cats

When you think iPad you don’t normally think about penguins.

However the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California, wants to change all that.

It has given its two Magellanic penguins, Jeremy and Newsom, access to their very own iPad so they can play a game using an app originally designed for cats.

The penguins use their beaks to chase a mouse around the screen and both really seem to enjoy playing the game.

Zoo volunteer Hugo Ryono wrote on a blog post: “Just like cats penguins are very curious and the idea of these birds following a virtual mouse on a screen was just too appealing to me not to try out.

“Dusting off my old iPad 1 and loading Game for Cats app on it we set up a penguin video arcade in the exhibit last week.

“Jeremy was the first to try it out but Newsom was the one that really got into it.

“Newsom especially seemed to like the squeak that the mouse made when he put his beak on the virtual critter.”

For those that are interested, Newsom set the penguin high score of 1600 for the game.
